This guide walks through what happens during a consultation with Amphis’s lighting designer, Eddie Buyukbekir, and how the process helps turn overwhelm into clarity.
Step 1: Understanding how you live
Every consultation starts with conversation. Before discussing fittings or layouts, we want to understand how you live.
How you use your kitchen. Where you spend time in the evenings. Which spaces need to feel functional and which should feel calm and relaxed.
“A home should feel tailored to the people living in it,” Eddie explains. “Lighting plays a huge role in that.”
You’ll also talk through what isn’t working in your current home. Maybe your kitchen feels too dark. Maybe your bathroom lighting feels harsh at night. These frustrations become valuable starting points for building a better lighting plan.
Every Studio Amphis consultation begins with understanding how you live, to create a lighting plan tailored to the way you use your home.
Step 2: Walking through the Studio
One of the biggest advantages of a Studio Amphis consultation is being able to experience lighting in a hands-on way. This is where the process becomes much easier to visualise. Instead of choosing lighting from a catalogue or looking at small product samples, you'll experience lighting in a full-scale environment. You'll see how different lighting techniques change the feel of a space and understand the impact of your decisions before building begins.
“A lot of clients are surprised by how emotional lighting actually is,” Eddie says. “Once they experience it properly, they start noticing how different spaces make them feel.”

Step 3: Building a practical lighting plan
After the studio demonstration, you’ll get to work on your considered lighting layout. Eddie will bring up your floorplans, and you'll ‘walk’ through them, room-by-room, to make key lighting decisions. By this stage, you'll have experienced different lighting techniques and can make decisions with confidence.
This stage is highly collaborative. Clients are encouraged to ask questions, share furniture layouts, colour palettes or inspiration images, and openly discuss budget so the final plan reflects your priorities.
Step 4: Refining the details
By the end of your consultation, you’ll have a clear understanding of how your home will be lit. You’ll feel confident and excited, knowing you have a lighting plan designed around the way you live.
After the appointment, Eddie will refine the finer details of the plan. He’ll finalise specifications, layouts and recommendations, then share the completed documentation with you and any key members of your project team.
From there, all that’s left is to wait for installation, knowing your lighting has been thoughtfully planned from the very beginning.
