Décor spotlight: the sage colour palette

Coveting one of this season’s key colours but not sure how to introduce it into your home? Let us show you how. Sage is a beautifully muted shade of green that will instantly refresh a space. Even if you’re not doing a complete overhaul of a room, as with the kitchen below, we’ll share how you can purposefully apply the sage colour palette.

Lighting

Practical applications aside, lighting allows you to declare your individuality and style. Sage is one of those special colours that can be bold or neutral, depending on how you use it.

Pack a punch with blocks of colour, such as with our Piatto pendants. Saturated colours like these work well in contemporary or modern spaces. For traditional rooms, a hint of sage will reveal your unique side without feeling over-the-top. Our Hunter pendant is an elegant, simple design with an unexpected glint of cool green. 

Finishes

Start looking into the world of finishes and you’ll discover many ways to reinvigorate a room with a sage palette. Try a lick of paint on a feature wall, a tiled splashback in the bathroom or laminate on benchtops and cabinets in the kitchen.

Choose blue-greens for a calming atmosphere in the bathroom or bedroom. Sage, also referred to as ‘eucalypt’, mimics the colour of blue gum leaves and evokes images of laid back rural retreats. Be sure to test colours before diving in as muted blue, green and grey tones can walk the line between rejuvenating and clinical.

You’ll also come across brighter hues of sage, which have more yellow. Select these for a sense of warmth, ideal in living rooms. Add texture to surfaces, such as through rippled laminate surfaces or textured paint, for extra cosiness.

Décor accessories

Elevate a neutral room with a pop of sage green. Because it is reminscient of nature, you don’t need to be afraid of working in too much. Start incrementally by updating accessories and soft furnishings; a vase for native foliage, cushions on the sofa or new bed linen. As you get accustomed to the colour, investigate larger furniture items or reupholster your favourite piece in subtly green fabric.
